And what luck? The UvA library owns an annotated copy of the ‘Catalogue of the Choicer Part’ of Llibri’s collection, sold by Sotheby’s in August 1859.
Well, not actually his ‘own’ collection. Forgery, theft, Libri stooped at nothing to accomodate his all consuming bibliomania. 448 pages of Libri exploits collected by Alessandra Maccioni Ruju and Marco Mostert will keep me busy. With in the back of my mind this friendly warning sent to me by Antiquarian Bookseller Minerva from The Hague on hearing the why and wherefore of my order of The Life and Times of Guglielmo Libri.
